Day 78 of Smilemakers around you – Serving cancer patients at subsidized rates
He started from scratch years ago by working as a canteen boy in a Cancer treatment hospital.
He worked his way up and was able to start his own canteen 26 years ago at a rehabilitation centre for cancer patients.
He is eternally grateful that his four sons got highly educated – one is a surgeon, one is a chartered accountant, one is a management professional, one is a businessmen.
He still comes personally to work everyday in his canteen even when he is 78 years old.
He operates with very low or breakeven margins or sometimes even at a loss.
He will not compromise on his standards, eg. giving only ‘Lijjat’ brand papad for all these years.
His dedication to serve high quality food to the cancer patients at very subsidized rates makes me smile.
