Day 144 of international places giving smiles – Remembering Kiama seaside town of Australia

On 30th Dec.09 we decided to go on a long drive from Canberra to Kiama.

The first stretch of greenery that we saw after passing barren lands was at Suttons forest. Then we entered the tourist drive. Stopped to get the feel of tall grass around and stare at the black bulls grazing in the meadows behind
At Ben Ricketts forest reserve, we were welcomed with some more natural wild tress. I saw a board in the town of Jamberoo which announced that it has a population of only 972…I did not know whether to laugh or cry as I compare it to the over populated country of India.  I a cute picket fence that looked straight out of an Enid Blyton story book

Finally we reached the sea side town of Kiama where I got my my first view ever of the dark blue coloured Pacific ocean! The blowhole at Kiama which gushes out tall sprays of water during high tide is a famous attraction but we went during low tide so we missed seeing this phenomenan. At least we saw the Kiama light house!

Son and relative climbed upto the edge of treacherous looking rocks to get some superb photo angles. In one he seemed to be floating high on air against the waves and the rocks behind.

At another place called called Cathedral Rocks.I noticed the natural shape of the rocks behind, seemed as if it was the silhoute of a real cathedral. We then drove to the highest point of Kiama to get a superb view from the top. The view was indeed beautiful but the joy of being besides your son, made it even more beautiful…!

Another superb viewpoint was at the Saddleback Mountain Lookout where you feel like you can see the whole world below. We had a good time there with some friendly tourists.

We drove next to the Minnamurra rain forests, but at the entrance we realized that it was quite late in the day, and did not want to stuck in the dark inside the dense forrest.

We drove back via the town of Mose Vale and stopped for a while at the clock tower. Interesting peaceful end to an interesting day.

So which place made you smile today?
