Day 148 of international places giving smiles – Remembering one day spent in Boston America

As a child I had read in history about the Boston tea party, and had heard so much about it from close relatives who stayed there. It was a dream for the clever India kids to get into its famous Harvard University, so it was extra special for me when our first sight seeing stop in Boston was at Harvards.we walked through the campus regaled with stories about its majestic buildings and distinguished Alumni. We just had to take a picture in front of the statue of Mr. Harvard himself!

Our next stop was at the equally famous MIT University. My microbiologist student daughter had taken some online courses from this and went on and on about the high standard of education here.

We then visited the Trinity church to get a feel of the city centre. There was an open air concert going on and we got to listen to some great country music.

We called our relatives to meet us at the China Gate of the Chinatown plaza, this large city is spread over different sections with all nationalities living in harmony.

We were given a guided talk about Boston, throughout our long drive to their suburban home at Acton. And what a big house it was. Quite a contrast to the small apartments that we are used to living in Mumbai. It was a pleasure to meet near and dear ones and it also happened to be my big day…my 50th birthday! My cousin had made extra efforts to treat all of us to a lavish traditional Indian meal, something that I had really missed after travelling on the road and leaving my home 50 days before 50th birthday! And I even tried the upside down pose on a new fitness machine!

We got back to our fancy hotel for a well deserved rest. In the next morning, husband went to play his first golf game on the American continent. We continued our sight-seeing spree with the rest of the tour group at the Boston harbor. We even did some local shopping and tried out some local food at the Quincy market.

A fitting finale was a visit to the Cheers Pub that my son had heard so much about. And a repeated visit to the Cheesecake factory for some more yummy cheesecake.

There is so much more to see and do in Boston, but we did our best in the 24 hours that we were there, and promised ourselves that we would visit Boston again.

So which place made you smile today?

Be grateful for the places that make you smile!
