Day 153 of international places giving smiles – Remembering Niagara Falls from US side and the Canadian side
As a child I was gifted a toy by my grandparents which had views of different angles of the Niagara falls. So it was a dream come true when mya dearest friend from Toronto took precious leave to drive us all the way to see the one and only Niagara falls in its natural beauty from the Canadian side! The weather was perfect, we captured pictures from as many angles as possible. We were so close to the edge, I couldn’t believe that we could actually see the flat part of the collected water before it went gushing down with a roar. The Niagara falls really has a mesmerizing view from the Canadian side.
My second bonus visit to the Niagara falls happened two weeks later when we came to watch a musical show and try our hand at one of the casinos adjoining the falls. This time the view was from afar, yet it was still a ah ha moment at the grandeur of nature.
Three weeks later we again visited the Niagara falls with the family, this time from the American side. We first understood about the huge power generated here after a visit to the Niagara Power project plant. We also wandered for sometime at the Fort Niagara State park and were thrilled to see from American shores, the Toronto Skyline from across the Lake Ontario. Also met some tattooed hurly burly old men-seasoned bikers of the Harley Davidson gang! What a feeling it was .interacting with the Bikers…and actually getting to sit on a Harley Davidson!
We then got down, wearing our blue raincoats for a memorable ride on the Maid of Mist boat. Right into the heart of the roaring Niagara Falls. The almost completely circular Rainbow at the background was a beautiful sight, giving us a reminder that we are nothing in front of the grandeur of nature!
The best part of the day was an interaction with a man feeding crumbs to birds. He looked like a vagabond, but in fact was a retired blue collared worker, with well settled children in other cities. Son gave a treat for bringing in 50th birthday at Hard Rock cafe Niagara and we got extra attention from the waiter. Son suddenly took off his Ganesha T shirt to the energetic attendant who gave one word of admiration to him. In return son was gifted a Hard Rock Café Niagara Falls T shirt and a souvenir beer glass, a memorable end to a memorable visit to the Niagara falls.
My fourth visit to the Niagara falls happened on a very rainy day. My relatives insisted that my husband appreciate the Niagara falls not from the American side that he had seen earlier, but from the Canadian side that reflects it true beauty. They specially took us on a long drive all the way from Toronto to Niagara and we saw Niagara without any crowds, we must have been the only ones to appreciate Niagara in the heavy rains.
This time we explored the shopping Mall at Niagara, sampling spicy pickles and searching for some bargain leather products. Also we got a chance to see Niagara Falls by night, the changing colours on the roaring water falls was a unique sight for the eyes!
So which place made you smile today?
