Day 165 of impactful experiences making you smile- Not a maid servant but a sixth child

She was considered the most beautiful among her five sisters in her small village. At twelve years when she could not study, she was sent off to her brother-in laws place in another bigger village.

There a Muslim women with five children spotted this good looking Hindu girl. She decided to take her home and look after her, not just like a maid servant, but like her very own daughter. This beautiful girl was brought up with a lot of protection. Almost thirty years ago, in a rural Indian society where an uneducated good looking girl was looked upon as a difficulty, she felt she was fortunate enough to be brought up keeping her strict values intact, away from the so-called dangerous eyes of society.

She went to her mother’s home only once a year on a weekly leave. As the years passed by, she grew up just like another child of the household. Once she got very affected by the taunts of the grandmother at her place of work. She decided to go to her mother’s house and never return to the house that had brought her up so brilliantly.

That was many years ago. Today my maid servant Usha is married to a very good man and tries to install these old fashioned values into her own teenage daughter. And yes, she is ever grateful for her strict upbringing in the years that she spent with her employers as a teenager.

So who are the people who made us feel that ‘we are never alone!’?

Please share the positive impactful experiences with other people that made you smile in life!
