Day 286 of facts of pride about India giving smiles –  memories of my childhood friends

One of the huge advantages of living in an apartment complex in India, is that you get to interact closely with your neighbours, and have lot of childhood friends. The friendships that start as kids in a building complex , will last through the years and even if you lose touch with each other, when you meet again it is as if you are as free as a kid again.

I am lucky to be one of the few persons who has reached out to and made an attempt to keep in touch my childhood friends, some of whom I know ever since I was born!  I am so blessed to have so many happy memories of all my old friends through all these years…

Some Memories of my childhood friends when we were kids…

We hid under the passage steps  as we played hide and seek…

We played house house and we put wet mud and yellow buttercup petals inside the ‘billas’ that we collected…

We celebrated our doll’s birthday party and we decorated the marie biscuit cake with colourful Cadbury gems…

We played teacher teacher and we wrote on the building walls with chalk as we explained our lessons to imaginary students…

We tackled all the naughty bullies as we played chain cook or catching cook …

We organised our own entertainment evening talent shows, singing dancing or acting together

We pretended to act in plays like ramu ramu that we imagined, conceived, directed and acted by ourselves

We shouted on top of our voice-‘We won the game; We won the game’ when we defeated the opposite team in cricket or even hockey…

Some Memories of my childhood friends when we were teenagers…

We shouted ‘Dabba Chor’ at the smart looking boy from Ramson Tailors who robbed the Dabba when we played ‘Dabba Aise Spice’…

We spent hours discussing other smart looking and not so smart looking boys …

We  gave nick names to all the boys that we discussed

We co-conspired in glee when we gave anonymous phone calls to the boys…

We looked over umpteen pattern books to select our new dress for the next event…

We taught each other how to dress…what was the latest fashion and what was not as we rambled around Elco market…

We taught each other how to dance …as we looked from the terrace at all the Aunties and Uncles jiving at the Mahim Gymkhana floor…

We taught each other the meaning of the rare X rated jokes that we spoke about in secret…

Some Memories of my friends in my  twenties…

We sang so many English songs  on our picnics to the Gorai beach…

We laughed so much at all the movies and parties that I was allowed to go to…

We got a glimpse of corporate life as we discussed our first job as working adults…

We shared many emotional moments with each other in our smooth transition from campus to corporate life…

We learnt how to greet with a light peck on the cheek…

We become confident single woman who could travel around Bombay on our own…

Some Memories of childhood friends in our thirties…

We migrated to different cities and for some time we wondered why we did not write letters to each other…

We sent an occasional e-mail once in a while and missed each other sometimes…

Some Memories of childhood friends in our forties…

We laughed when we clicked so many photos of us together…

We still taught other the latest dance steps…

We made an attempt to organize and attend a reunion of childhood friends whenever we happened to be in the same town…

We now started wearing gorgeous sarees for social events…

We listened as we chatted about so many issues of our life around the world…

We chatted about so many matters of our new life in a new country, our new people, our new job, our new house…

We came, we saw, we charmed the world, we conquered all with our commitment to our friendship….

We can still shout on top of our voice…We won the game, We won the game!

On our 50th decade with lots of love and happiness, just having each other around means that we continue being a winner in all the games of our Life!!!

Looking forward to many more future moments with childhood friends
