Day 306 of personal insights giving smiles – Importance of mind management
Imagine you are all set to go on a week-long bicycle trekking expedition into the wild mountainside. Before you embark on your adventurous journey, wouldn’t you want to undertake a thorough inspection of your bicycle?
Now imagine you are a senior level manager in a large organization sitting in front of your desk in charge of taking policy decisions that may affect the corporate results in the long run. Before you decide on how to manage other aspects, wouldn’t you want to undertake a thorough inspection of yourself?
Self – Awareness is one of the keystones to being an effective manager.
When you embark on a discovery of yourself, you may be surprised to find out many aspects of your personality, that even you are not conscious of. You have the potential to do much more in your work…and you may not even know this.
In most work situations you may spend a lot of time analyzing external factors and then take outward actions accordingly. Who are you when you are taking that action? Are you confident and responsible? Or are you secretly scared and unsure? You need to also spend time, analyzing your internal factors… What are the thoughts that go across your mind? What are your feelings, attitudes, strengths, weaknesses just before you take that action? Do you know yourself before you try to know the situation?
Are you like the candle that wants to give lots of light to the world, but are not sure if you are lit from within or not? Yes, how you think and behave towards yourself, others and the activity involved will strongly determine the nature of your expected result. If you manage your mind in the desired way, it will manage to get you your desired results.
Imagine you have loads of work to do in your office. You can either attend to it happily in anticipation of a weekend with your beloved…or you can relax with your beloved and still be worried about the loads of pending work.
The source of your state of contentment is not dependent on external things, it depends on your mind. So be conscious about the way in which you manage your mind…your success of external management is dependent on your success of internal management!
