Day 362 of small things giving smiles – Falling down and getting up again as you try a new sport

Day 362 of small things giving smiles – Falling down and getting up again as you try a new sport

Have you ever got the guts to try out a sport for the first time in your life? Or do you prefer to stay in your comfort zone and stop yourself because of the imaginary fear of getting hurt?

I had a chance to try out a sport that I had never done before- Ice skating. I had seen many movie stars try out fascinating  stunts on ice in the movies so I happily decided to actually attempt this sport myself when I had the chance!

First of all, dressing up in layers of clothing and getting used to the intense cold is by itself a challenge! And as the instructed tied up all the gear on my legs I realized that keeping my balance in one place itself is also a big challenge.

And suddenly the slopes below me looked more menacing than before. Looking at all the novices falling around me, I was terrified at the prospect of speeding  down the slippery stretches.

But I did not let this imaginary  fear of getting hurt stop me! On the encouraging  words of the instructor I began my very first ski ride down the Oct slopes. Within seconds I fell down. I was helped up again. Then after a few metres I fell down again. I did not give up. I wanted to continue skiing to complete the timings that I had paid for. So I got up again and fell down again to the giggles of all our friends. So what?

This was something I had only seen on tv or a movie and now I was doing it myself. Finally I managed a few seconds of actual skiing without falling down and I even got it captures on video!

By now my time was up. As I smiled and posed for a photo, it was with a feeling of satisfaction for having attempted something new in my life..Falling is a part of life isn’t it? It is how fast we learn to rise that  will give us more smiles life!
