Day 403 of new travel experiences giving smiles  – Taking a Nature Safari tour and basking in the beauty of the Sun, Sky and Sea

Have you ever been on tour through a Nature Safari Park on a bus? And have you ever stopped to welcome the beauty of the trinity-  the sun, the sea and the sky?

So on day 37 of our long trip our group if 16 set out from our swanky beach resort at Maria La Gorda. We were off to a bus tour to experience nature inside the famous National park of Cuba.

Our first stop was to see a spot that used to be a cave next to a spring water source which eventually got merged with the sea water. In course of time the roof of the cave collapsed inside the pool of water..we could still see many fishes swimming  in this pool which is a  mixture of sea and spring water.

We also tasted a red fruit that belonged to the grape family but left a bitter taste in the mouth.

Big hurricanes and frequent ones in Cuba are a regular occurrence.  In 2004 and in 2009..big waves up to 300 metres height,10 hours of rain, winds with speeds up to 200 kms per hour   hit Cuba.  The natural vegetation was destroyed then, and as the sea water came in the eco system got unbalanced and we can see bare lands even today. Probably it will take another 10 year for these bare brown mangroves to become  green again amidst the lagoons.
Still every season these woodlands do welcome more of the migratory Mississisipi birds that come from the North!

We were lucky that the  big hurricane Mathew that hit the East Coast of Cuba the previous night, missed us on the West coast of Cuba and we had a clear day to do our Safari tour!

Our next  stop was to see the tiny little bee hummingbirds..we saw 4 of them flying  and i would have thought they were butterflies instead

Also we heard the continuous barking of ferocious dogs and the loud grunting of pigs which was quite eerie. Our guide told us that one family  was allowed to stay in the park since many generations as they reared dogs who were trained to keep the family of pigs from straying.

As we drove more and more above sea level we could see the change of vegetation..firangipanis, cactus etc.

Our next stop was just begging us  to take pictures of the panaoric natural scenery.

We saw 2 deers, one big iguana, a black Cuban hawk and a falcon too on our drive through the national park.

We finally reached the lighthouse at San Antonio which  was on the  western tip of the Cuban island and gave guidance to seafarers approaching Cuba from the western side.

It was a morning well spent amongst simple natural beauty.

And in the afternoon we were back on the beach to experience the magic of the union of the trinity of the sun, the sky and the sea!
