Day 404 of new travel experiences giving smiles- Getting a peek of life in a self-sustained Comunist community

Have you heard of communities that live all by themselves with hardly any dependence n the external world? Do you wonder how your life would be inside a closed boundary?

So on day 38 of our long trip we got an experience of living with a self- sustained communist community in Cuba..these people at Las Terraces, grow and cook their own food, generate their own power, work in eco-friendly environment inside the community itself, live in similar homes, get paid equally.. reuse and regenerate whatever they can in harmony with nature.

Few years ago they constructed an eco friendly hotel to generate additional tourist income for tge community. This swanky hotel evenhad a variety of food in their vegetarian restaurant for me…there were plants and trees growing all over the lobby and corridors, no doors for the  bathrooms and our bathtubs were overlooking the trees …  this was an unforgettable eco friendly experience.

Next morning we walked lots to go o the San Juan riverside! And Shringar had her first experience of going across the whole river, park, the jungle and community houses on the zipline..! This canopy tour is a must do treat at Las Terraces

If you look at the normal job scene you may understand why Community living is such a success in Cuba.Youngsters want  to leave Cuba because there is no recognition  for talent, average salary is only 20 to 40 $ a month.

However other embassies  don’t give visa to Cubans then try to leave illegally which is also an unsafe option.

Some years ago many Cubans went to Ecuador which had no Visa requirements..then they wwould spend 8000 $ to cross 8 countries to reach US and live there illegally!

Housing is super expensive for the average wage earner in Cuba
1 room apartment in old area is 10000 to 15000 dollars..

Joint family living togethere in small apartments is a common sight

People are not allowed to study business admimistration as no official solo business is recognised Hotels have to be started in a joint venture with foreigners. Food is rationed in subsisized supermarkets only. Clothes business not allowed. If you have money you can get anything from the thriving parallel.black market.Dual citizenship with Spanish is given ifparent or grandparent was Spanish  Clothes are cheaper  and in black marketCuban pesos and CuC..two currenciesare prevalent in Cuba

All this made me smile to think how blessed we are to live in a free reading economy country.
