Girls day trip to Horseley hills

It was time for an outing to the only hill station of Andhra Pradesh with the unusual English name of Horsley Hills, though the local name was different, named after an old lady who used to live in the hills.

As soon as we entered the Andhra Pradesh state we noticed a change in the terrain. We were surrounded by short rolling hills filled with rocks of all sizes on the slopes, it seemed miraculous how they balanced themselves on the edge of the steep slopes adding to the trillions of pretty pictures painted by nature for us.

As our vehicle climbed up the Horsley hills, we got a whiff of the scent from the white barked Eucalyptus trees from either side of the roads.

On the top, we were welcomed by the statue of Jiddu Krishnamurti the famous philosopher and founder of the Rishi Valley school nearby.

After crossing the impressive Governor’s bungalow our next two exciting stops was at the view points, from where we could get an almost 360* perspective of the green and brown flat lands along with the rolling hills around us.

Then we ventured on to the rocks around us, and what became a truly wonderful experience was the feel and sound of the strong winds hitting at us from almost all sides. We safely perched ourselves at almost the edge of the precipice to literally feel on top of the windy world with good friends and good surroundings. Another photo time for raising my hands up in my mode of ‘Thank you God for everything’ moment.

We walked past the cottages and children play area and realized we had the luxury of possibly being the only out of state tourists at this hill station on a weekday. We had to indulge in some ice cream and then had a simple lunch at the only government run restaurant in the area.

The exotic sounding Gangotri lake, looked more like a pond, but was strewn with garbage thrown by irresponsible tourists. We also saw a photo shoot by a new couple surrounded with artificial green or blue smoke around them

We searched for the old big Kalyani Eucalyptus tree on our Google Map and it seemed as natural as the other trees in the vicinity. We drove past the Mariamma temple opposite the bus stand and finally reached our last sightseeing point on Horsley hills, called the Wind Rocks.

As we walked precariously on the vast sloppy rocky mountainside all around us, I watched kids chasing balloons which were faster than them, thanks to the speedy winds again in this area. I just had to sit alone in AUM meditative mode as the mild sun kept going in and out of the friendly clouds and changing the colours of the scenery around us.

Horsely Hills, you too must visit it and feel the wind on the rocks here to understand the exciting feeling that my words cannot describe.

So in 2018, do notice these simple smiling moments.Have a smiling year!
