Day 239 of Indian places giving smiles –Bird watching at the Lama Camp
We reached the picturesque Lama camp in the middle of the forests and Hills of the State of Arunachal Pradesh.. We were excited at the prospect of sleeping on top of the hill in tents with a view of the valley! We did make an attempt to go for an evening walk in the woods and were actually lucky to see some colourful birds.
At night we assembled near the makeshift campfire for an evening of song and dance, laughing away at the idiosyncrasies of each of us!
And we slept in pitch darkness after turning off the LED lanterns in our tents.
In the next morning we had to get up really early at 4.30 a.m. as we had to attempt to spot the birds at the nearby forests of the Eaglenest reserve.
We tried to dress in a way that we could discreetly merge with the surroundings and not scare away the birds. It was like listening to a symphony of bird sounds. However there were no bird sightings for me. I realized that I do not have the patience nor the interest to become an avid bird watcher.
I decided to return back to the Lama camp after the pleasant morning walk. I was told that this is the only place in India that had 100% turnout in the last elections (only 2 people in this polling camp!)
After 9 days in the hills, we had to do our final packing for the return journey. It was filled with a bit of nostalgia, knowing that we would not see these happy hills for a long time again!
Were lucky to see a huge army convoy pass us on the roads, we waved and saluted to them in pride…and were thrilled to get a smile back from these brave jawans!
Bye bye Arunachal Pradesh- Hello Reality!
