Driving precariously to avoid the edge of an icy precipice
One of the highlights of our trip to the untouched Spiti valley, which opened up to the mainstream public with minimal roads just 30 years ago, was our road trip through the rugged terrain.
As our two vehicles manouevered their way through narrow, uneven, pebble filled roads, at many places, some of us could not bear to sit at the window side that seemed to just drop into the valley.
At such times we fully trusted our driver to with a smile happily drove us through the roads and pointed out to the uncleared ice at the sides, these can cause skidding if not monitored by the Border Road Organization (BRO) authorities.
The sight of our vehicles avoiding the treacherous ice on the edge of the steep cliff, with a silent prayer in my heart, makes me smile at the trust that we all have on the higher power that will keep all of us safe.
So in 2018, do notice these simple smiling moments.Have a smiling year.
