Watching the intense Gujrathi movie Chitkar along with the film star Sujata Mehta.
I had heard of filmstar Sujata Mehta from the famous 1987 hit movie Pratighat and the TV serial Khandhan, and it was a pleasure to get to know her personally over the last 8 years.
I had also heard of her famous Gujrathi play Chitkar that had done a record of 800+ drama shows with her in the same leading role of a mentally affected person! It is really challenging to portray these intense emotions repeatedly in a 3 hour drama. I really appreciate the emotional rollercoaster that she must have gone through over those years as she prepared herself again and again for this intense role in Chitkar.
It was her dream come true for all of us to see the rare phenomenon of a stage artist in a play also become the heroine in the same movie.
In these times of increased mental trauma cases, it is refreshing to see a film with a message of using love therapy to treat such patients, yet society’s acceptance of such reformed people is still a question mark?
I wonder whether this movie will cater to the taste of the masses, I feel it requires another class of audience that will really appreciate such intense acting.
We friends had the special privilege of watching a night show movie with the heroine herself, giving us inputs on how she actually lived and interacted with patients in a mental asylum throughout the making of the movie.
Do see this movie in a theatre, and I smiled as I could easily understood the conversations, even though I don’t know Gujrathi.
So in 2018, do notice these simple smiling moments. Have a smiling year!
