Day 145 of international places giving smiles – Remembering Melbourne in Australia

Day 145 of international places giving smiles – Remembering Melbourne in Australia

12th Jan 10. We were excited to go on a guided sight seeing tour of Melbourne. It started outside the Royal Exhibition Buildings where some father daughter bonding took place.

Architect son was enamoured at the range of creative architectural structures I different parts of Melbourne. Our next stop was at the the St Pauls Cathedral where we were spell bound by its  majestic interiors.

At the Fitzroy gardens of Melbourne we were surprised to see the model of a European Tudor village. It seems this was given to the people of Melbourne by UK in return for Ozzie services during war times.

At the Shrine of Rememberance, we happened to stand next to an old woman who had lost her husband in the world war, and it was an emotional moment to watch her cry when the last trumpet was being played.

We did some tourist shopping at a local market, went on a free tram ride in the city centre. We walked lots and found ourselves in front of the Baths as we searched for our way back to the hotel

In the evening it was time to attempt to use the local transport on our own as we managed to reach the eastern suburb of Rowville. We got an insight into life at Melbourne with an interesting evening with a friend at his nice house. Little did we know then than even our son would become a local resident when he would be working in Melborne a few years later.
Our second day in Melbourne was devoted completely for shopping. We walked lots. Crossed a bridge over the Yarra river and kept searching for the DFO mall on a day dedicated to me teenage daughters needs…clothes, shoes, bags, we ladies could go on and on while the men waited patiently with their beers for us to finish!

The art and cultural scene is also quite big in Melbourne. So much to see so much to do…just 2 days was hardly enough to discover the different aspects of this city.

So which place made you smile today?

Be grateful for the places that make you smile!
