Day 151 of international places giving smiles – Remembering what happened in Las Vegas in America
It was a long drive through three different states of the USA. From California state we visit Nevada state then Arizona state. We had a very good lady guide Angela as we drove through very hot dry weather to reach the colourful city that I had heard so much about – Las Vegas! We were staying at the hotel Riviera which had 2300 rooms and when build was considered the 26th largest hotel in the world.later I found out that the MGM hotel had 5400 rooms!
Imagine what can be built from what used to be just desert sands. 300 casinos where people come from all over the world to try out their luck. Grand Canyon is God’s creation and this seemed like a total contrast, a Humans creation – this Las Vegas city…and it keeps changing every 2 years.
Each hotel seemed better than the other. 7 of worlds 10 biggest hotels are found in Las vegas. There are numerous shows from every hotel per night. Best price offers from them are enough to spoil you for choice. Once there was even a 50 or 77 million dollars spent on constructing a stage for a show. Everything here seems to be done on a lavish scale.
Some shows have been running continuously for more than 25 years. Old shows, new shows, Topless shows, girly shows, guy shows, jubilee shows. The sign boards kept screaming for attention –
90 $ with transport.
115 $ for night tour plus show.
Variety show with transport 80 $.
Circus de soliel.
MGM ballagio and la reve.
$ 160 show. Satisfaction guarantee.
Aria hotel 110$.
We explored our Riveria hotel. It had a McDonald’s too. There was a Free wifi. Good for us. We walked by 2 mini supermarkets, Food court, open Swimming pool, casino, and then were out on the hot streets.
On the first day we walked in the natural day light from almost one end of Las Vegas to another. And we came back to the hotel seeing a completely transformed Las Vegas, this time dazzling by the artificialshimmering bright night lights!!!
We found out about the free shows conducted by the different hotels in the open that could be watched by the general public. The Ceasers palace had a show by the statue every hour, but it was cancelled that day, so we treated ourselves at the Cheesecake factory instead.
.
There was a musical fountain show at the gardens of the Bellagio conducted every 30 mins and we got to see it in full. Even the pirate ship show was exciting as one ship was literally fired at till it drowned inside the water!!! Some years ago my husband had stated at the Excaliber with its medieval themes of King Arthurs times. There was hotel New New York American themes place, an Egypt themed place, a mini Italian Venice, a wax museum, rides and theme parks, the golden Trump Tower…we just did not know which side to look.
Finally we decided to go for the ‘O’ show at Cirque de Soliel. This is supposed to be a once in a lifetime experience as our jaw dropped watching the amazing acrobatics.
Next evening ,as we walked out of our hotel, got worried a bit as a thick black cloud of smoke seemed to come close towards the Golden Trump Tower. We had dressed in style and tried our luck at the Casino for just a limited amount. I really missed my girl friends with whom I would have loved to go for some adult show. I almost joined a group of ladies for a show as they celebrated a friends 50th birthday in style, but then did not want to leave my young daughter alone at night in Las Vegas!
Our last day visit was for some more shopping at an outlet mall. Also went to the Ethel Chocolate factory to see live chocolate making at the factory. We also visited their Cactus garden which had over 300+ cactus with colourful flowers. We saw plenty of these kind of prickly cactus as we drove through the desert lands of Nevada..Seemed like a survival and adjustment lesson for us.
So which place made you smile today?
